Early in her career, UC Davis Health’s Judie Boehmer had two patients who left an indelible impression on her, and shaped her view of what it means to truly care for the whole person: a woman who underwent gender confirmation surgery, and a man who lost both of his eyes due to a diabetic fungal infection. They taught her the importance of nurturing a genuine relationship with patients – and connecting on a personal and meaningful level.
