Residents
Our faculty and staff are committed to training practicing orthopaedic surgeons with the broadest possible experience. We offer a five year program (four per year), and a six-year option (one per year) that allows for a dedicated year of research following the PGY-2 clinical year.
Residents rotate at three month intervals on subspecialty services that function as small practice groups under the leadership of the chief resident, with close supervision of an teaching by attending staff.

I chose orthopaedics after having multiple surgeries playing football in college, and developing a mentoring relationship with our team surgeon. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and building things my whole life. Nothing is more fulfilling than helping a patient get back to a healthy and functional life.

The practice of Orthopaedic Surgery is rooted in anatomy, I have always been fascinated by the anatomic processes that drive human locomotion. As an Orthopaedic Surgeon I am given the opportunity to apply the knowledge of kinematics in order to treat Musculoskeletal disease - whether congenital, traumatic or degenerative - allowing for the surgical restoration of form and function, with the continued goal of improving the quality of life for our patients. The motivation to make a positive impact on my patients and society has guided my passion for Orthopaedic Surgery and attracted me to training at UC Davis Medical Center where excellence in Medicine and Surgery are paramount, with the common goal of providing, and elevating patient centered care

I chose to pursue orthopedic surgery because it offers a wide variety of complex problems that require both a strong clinical and surgical understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy and pathology to solve. In addition, the definitive nature and high patient satisfaction that results from many orthopedic interventions is very rewarding. I specifically chose to train at UC Davis because of the strong resident and faculty relationships, high volume representation within all orthopedic subspecialties, and the endless outdoor activities available in the surrounding area.

Why Orthopaedics?
I am pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery because I really enjoy caring for patients with musculoskeletal injuries. Orthopaedics is a very rewarding specialty as you’re very often able to correct the patient’s problem and greatly improve their lives. Additionally, the variety within the field of orthopaedics in regard to anatomy, surgical techniques, and skills required for diagnosis and treatment really resonated with me during my rotations in medical school.

Why Orthopaedics?
Initially, like many of my colleagues, I was drawn to orthopaedics given my own personal experience with sports-related injuries. However, once in medical school, I quickly learned that orthopaedics is a much more diverse field. From pediatrics to orthopedic oncology, orthopaedic surgeons provide care to all patient populations. What drew me to the specialty was the ability to use one’s knowledge of fundamentals of orthopaedics combined with technical surgical skills to produce functional improvements in patients’ lives.

Why Orthopaedics?
For me, orthopaedics is the marriage of medicine and engineering. I have always been drawn to mechanics and love fixing things with my hands, and orthopaedic surgery provides the perfect opportunity to apply those principals while getting patients back to doing what they love to do.

Why Orthopaedics?
The opportunity to care for patients from all walks of life, specifically focusing on improving their function and quality of life through performing interesting and technically demanding operations.

Why Orthopaedics?
The anatomy/physics behind orthopedic injuries and the techniques orthopedic surgeons use to fix them is what initially drew me towards orthopaedics. Once I was able to do an orthopedic rotation as a third year medical student, I knew it was the path I wanted to pursue. I know it's a specialty that will always challenge me and will always be fulfilling.
