The UC Davis CAMPEP-Approved Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program is a two year program designed for individuals with a Ph.D. degree who seek training in clinical radiation oncology physics.
The physics resident participates directly in the clinical routine, under the supervision of experienced radiation oncology physicists and physicians, while receiving comprehensive training in the areas of external beam planning and treatment delivery, treatment aid design and fabrication, brachytherapy planning and delivery, dose measurement, radiation treatment machine calibration, special procedures such as image-guided intensity modulated radiation therapy, quality assurance, and radiation safety.
Graduates of this program will have received sufficient clinical training to prepare them for work as a radiation oncology physicist and certification in the specialty of Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology.
The Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program is an official program within UC Davis Health and administered through the Department of Radiation Oncology.
The Department is located in the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and is actively engaged in the advanced clinical and research programs, including image-guided IMRT and VMAT (with motion-management), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), image-guided brachytherapy, in vivo dosimetry, and informatics infrastructure development.
The Department has full-member status with the NRG Oncology and has both an ACGME-accredited physician residency training program and a CAMPEP-approved medical physics residency program. There are research affiliations with the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and the UC Davis School of Biomedical Engineering.

Applications will be accepted from individuals who are not in CAMPEP-approved graduate programs with the understanding that 4 of the 6 required courses must be completed before the start of residency. Required courses are:

5. Anatomy and Physiology
6. Radiation Therapy Physics
Our program participates in the Medical Physics Matching Program. Upon selection as a resident candidate, you will receive an invitation along with an Interview Welcome Packet. Interview sessions will be held in January and February ahead of Match Day, which occurs the end of March.
Virtual Interview Days
The Department of Radiation Oncology will conduct virtual interviews on various dates and times between January 1 – February 26, 2021. More information will be posted to our website by October, 2020.
