Philosophy of Care
Dr. Kirane aims to provide compassionate care as a partnership with her patients and their families with respect to each patient's individual needs. In complex cases, a multi-disciplinary team of specialists within the cancer center will collaboratively coordinate in effort to help guide our patients in decision making to ensure the highest quality care.
Dr. Kirane is a fellowship trained Complex General Surgical Oncologist with specialty training in Melanoma, other skin cancers, and soft tissue diseases as well as minimally invasive approaches to oncologic surgery in soft tissue, gastric, and hepatobiliary cancers.
Her clinical interests include regional therapies for locally advanced soft tissue cancers, including isolated limb infusion, as well as evolving technologies and therapies in advanced melanoma cases. She passionately believes in personalized medicine using evidence-based best practice to tailor treatment to each individual patient.
Dr. Kirane's academic interests include basic and translational science research in melanoma and sarcoma with specific interest in mechanisms of evasive resistance, tumor microenvironment signaling and immune response. Being able to move from bench to bedside and return allows for the rapid adaptation of surgical science to improved patient care.
Her previous bench work has resulted in multiple ongoing trials of novel therapeutic strategies in pancreatic cancer. She is also invested in surgical education and clinical trials for novel targets in resistant melanoma.
