Philosophy of Care

Sports medicine is a rapidly evolving field that encompasses more than the care of an elite athlete. Industrial "athletes," recreational athletes, and individuals with medical conditions and disabilities are all part of a specialty sports medicine practice. I try to do the very best I can for my patients, with their good health in mind. I have respect for my patients, regardless of their background or status. I encourage them to take personal responsibility and initiative for healthy habits.

My training in sports medicine is reflected in my community service to professional and intercollegiate sports programs. I am pleased that my colleagues and I can provide care to such a diverse racial, cultural and socioeconomic mix of patients with equal concern for all.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Tanji's specialty is sports medicine, and he limits his practice to physician referrals for sports injuries only. He has written more than 60 publications and book chapters about sports medicine.

Dr. Tanji has served major-league professional sports teams as well as the intercollegiate sports program at UC Davis.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Tanji's research interests include the use of aerobic exercise as a treatment for moderately high blood pressure.
