One of the many lessons that Stacey Armstrong reminds herself is to “stay really present with who the person is, not who I imagine them to be.” This principle, which has helped her navigate complex and challenging social situations throughout her career, hit home for her during one particular experience with the son of a patient who was dying. Her first impressions of the man ended up being completely wrong.
