A new high-tech digital display screen has been installed in the Education Building. It allows users to view detailed information about distinguished alumni of the UC Davis School of Medicine.
The touch-screen kiosk, on the third-floor breezeway, replaces the pictures of graduates that for years crowded the wall near the dean’s office.
The dozens of 5-by-7-inch portraits were scanned into digital files for the kiosk. Users can navigate through a series of options to see the photos and read accompanying profiles.
Users can also look up alumni by name, type of award, or year in which the recognition was given.
Health Sciences Development and Alumni Relations conceived the idea for the electronic kiosk.
“The wall was outdated and just packed. This is much more useful to look up and learn who these important people are,” said M.L. Farrell, the school’s director of alumni engagement.
“This kiosk is a lot more robust than the wall,” Farrell said while demonstrating the ease in which users can touch through different pages and read the comprehensive biographies.
Previously, the so-called “wall of fame” was limited to the photograph, name, type of award and year in which it was received.
The kiosk is portable and can be moved elsewhere in the building for special occasions, such as alumni events.
