The celebration features inspiring speeches, music and live performances from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Zoom.

Featured speakers include Health Sciences Associate Professor Jorge Garcia and Kaiser Permanente physician Vibha Gupta. Music is being provided by Mariachi Mixteco. Cultural dances will be performed by Danza de Los Viejitos De Torrecillas Michoacán.

Latinx Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Tonight’s event is the last in a series hosted by the UC Davis chapter of Latino Medical Student Association, or LMSA.

In addition to raising awareness about Latinx culture, the celebration also serves as a fundraiser.

A “33-33-33 raffle” will designate 33% of earnings to No Immigrants No spice, a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Gupta that supports immigrant families. Another 33% will benefit an individual winner, and 33% will go toward LMSA, which empowers current and future medical students at UC Davis School of Medicine.

Raffle entries can be sent through Venmo to @LMSA-Account. Each $1 equals one entry.

La Venadita Restaurant, in the Oak Park neighborhood near the UC Davis Health campus, has partnered with LMSA to provide discounts to diners during the two-hour online celebration. The restaurant is at 3501 3rd Ave., Sacramento.
