Although he was happy as an oncology nurse, Darrell Desmond was challenged to step into a larger leadership role. In becoming one of UC Davis Health’s first Black nurse managers, Darrell was aware that he could help open doors in creating a more inclusive work culture and environment. But he also wanted to make sure that he was able to bring his full self to the role, and that he would be a able to grow and “fail forward.”
