Oct. 9 — Associate dean leads diversity training for national nursing academy Piri Ackerman-Barger, the associate dean for health equity, diversity and inclusion at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, led the training “Together We Advance an Inclusive Nursing Profession: A Model for Mitigating and Responding to Racism, Discrimination and Microaggressions,” at the American Academy of Nursing 2021 Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. Oct. 7-9. The annual conference followed a hybrid format this year with both virtual and onsite activities. The academy is a professional nursing organization that generates and disseminates nursing knowledge to contribute to health policy and practice. The training was one component of the academy’s new diversity and inclusivity efforts. Piri is widely recognized for her research and work to make both education and health care environments more diverse and welcoming.
