Jennifer Black is the education technology and operations specialist for the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. As the education technology specialist, she is responsible for the administration and implementation of instructional technologies and serves as course coordinator for complex courses. As operations specialist, she builds the master academic calendar for all programs, coordinates program-wide planning meetings and is responsible for the logistics of the annual Academic Symposium. Prior to joining the School of Nursing, Black served as the medical student course coordinator for the UC Davis School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine. Before coming to UC Davis, Black worked for 13 years at BloodSource, first as a blood donor recruiter specializing in platelet and plasma donation recruitment. Ana Marin Cachu is the program manager for the health education grants team at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. This team is dedicated to implementing a portfolio of health education grants focused on team-based primary care, interprofessional education and a nurse practitioner residency program. In this role, she provides administrative leadership, as well as programmatic and operational oversight. She also plays a crucial role in communicating and collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders. Kristen Bettega is the lead data analyst supporting evaluation efforts for the health education grants team at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Sarah Mentze serves as the School of Nursing’s director for alumni and community engagement, leading engagement efforts among alumni and external constituencies to develop strategic partnerships and programs. Mentze brings with her nearly two decades of experience inspiring and connecting individuals with various nonprofit organizations to improve access to community resources, affordable child care, public education and comprehensive health services using her passions to advocate, communicate and fundraise. As project coordinator for the Betty Irene Moore Fellowships for Nurse Leaders and Innovators program, Dan Carter provides high level coordination of events, meeting planning and complex curriculum support. Prior to joining the School of Nursing in 2020, he served as a development analyst at the UC Davis Office of Development, where he was responsible for coordinating regional donor and alumni events as well as analyzing prospective donor and existing donor data. Before joining UC Davis in 2013, Carter had a long career as a professor of diesel technology at San Joaquin Delta College, partnering with Caterpillar Inc. to train cohorts of technicians in a public-private educational partnership. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in adult education and workforce development.

Christy Chung is a program specialist for the Center for Advancing Pain Relief, a first-of-its-kind hub for education, research, clinical care and policy surrounding pain management. She is primarily responsible for managing and coordinating the daily operations of the ECHO Pain Management Telementoring Program and the Train the Trainers: Primary Care Pain Management Fellowship. Prior to joining the School of Nursing, Chung worked in the School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. Before that, she spent several years with Bayanihan Clinic, a UC Davis student-run clinic providing free health services and education to uninsured populations in Sacramento. She also worked as a research assistant in the UC Davis Program in International and Community Nutrition where she assisted in monitoring and evaluating large-scale food fortification programs in Cameroon. Chung earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science from UC Davis.

Monica Christina Esqueda is the program manager for the Betty Irene Moore Fellowships for Nurse Leaders and Innovators program. Her areas of expertise include higher education leadership, curriculum design, program evaluation, faculty development and education policy. Prior to joining the School of Nursing in 2020, Esqueda was an education specialist at the UC Davis Center for Educational Effectiveness and the inaugural equity advisor for the Office of Undergraduate Education. In these roles she worked to advance inclusive teaching, and the integration of diversity, equity and inclusion principles across departments and programs. Previously, Esqueda was an assistant professor of higher education and community college leadership at Old Dominion University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in human development from the University of California, San Diego, a Master of Education in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Washington, and a doctorate in education policy from the University of Southern California.

Devin Rifkin is a research analyst at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. He supports the school’s research mission and goals by offering an array of pre- and post-award administration services to faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students and staff. Prior to his current position, Rifkin began his career with UC Davis in 2006 as a grant coordinator for the Center of Health Services Research in Primary Care. In 2008, Rifkin worked as a clinical research coordinator at the UC Davis Department of Internal Medicine, where he managed multiple, large-scale research projects involving five UC campuses. As director for strategic communications, Rebecca Badeaux provides vision, direction and leadership in developing high visibility communications strategies at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. Badeaux creates integrated media programs to connect on an emotional level, envisioning the brand through written pieces and video components. Prior to joining the School of Nursing in 2014 as the school’s writer, Badeaux served as chief strategist for Chase Rainer Media, where she handled company positioning strategy, strategic planning, media training, story placement, crisis management, community relations and issues management for the agency’s clients. Previous to her 10 years at Chase Rainer Media, Badeaux spent more than a decade in the trenches of television newsrooms both as a news anchor and medical reporter. As director for strategic marketing and branding, Jenny Carrick is responsible for all school-wide marketing efforts, including research, analysis and tools, and development of relevant policies and procedures. She leads the planning, organization and management of all marketing functions to achieve school growth objectives in enrollment, employment, visibility and brand awareness. She also counsels school leadership on marketing and visibility issues. Previously, she served as the school’s director for communications and marketing from 2008 through 2016. Prior to joining the School of Nursing, Carrick was director of communications, marketing and government relations for the American Red Cross, covering its western region activities, including large-scale disaster responses. Carrick also worked for 10 years in the news industry as a reporter, editor and news director in both radio and newspaper, including a three-year stint as editor of the Lincoln News Messenger in Lincoln, California. Carrick earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1992 from the University of La Verne, in La Verne, California.
