Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis provides clinical services at a number of locations throughout the greater Sacramento area. Faculty and residents also provide services at three County of Sacramento regional clinics, a cross-cultural outpatient clinic, and a homeless mentally ill clinic.

Research is conducted at a number of sites throughout northern California. Faculty are involved in telepsychiatry research at the Center for Health and Technology and are conducting geriatric research at the Alzheimer's Disease Center and the UC Davis Latino Aging Research Resource Center.  Other active research sites include Napa State Hospital and the California National Primate Research Center. Faculty conduct research involving newly diagnosed patients with schizophrenia, and those at high risk for this disorder in the Early Diagnosis and Preventive Treatment (EDAPT) Clinic. Specific research studies focus on neurocognition, learning, and memory in patients with schizophrenia.

The Department has a child and adolescent psychiatry division, a forensic psychiatry division, and a clinical neuroscience division. Board-certified forensic psychiatrists provide consultation services to the court and to legal firms throughout northern California and the United States. Faculty in the child and adolescent psychiatry division provide outpatient clinical services in the department’s child psychiatry outpatient clinic and at the MIND Institute, and consultation services at the UC Davis Medical Center and Shriners Hospital.

The Department has three accredited residency programs: general psychiatry, family medicine/psychiatry, and internal medicine/psychiatry.  It also supports fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine.
